Simple strategies to slash those energy bills

Energy prices were already bad enough, and now many households are bracing themselves for an even Ibigger squeeze after recent electricity and gas cost increases. Winter is also casting a big chill, so staying warm and dry for the rest of this season could be costlier than ever.

However, some smart strategies make it possible to save money without sacrificing the essentials. Negotiating a better deal is a must, according to Finder energy expert Mariam Gabaji.

"An energy plan was something you could set and forget, but those days are long gone," she says. "Compare plans yearly and switch to a better plan if you can."

HOW MUCH MORE WILL I PAY?

Prices are surging across the board, although they will vary by state and how much. In July we learned that rates were rising by 20 to 25 per cent for people in NSW, south-east Queensland, South Australia and Victoria.
