Welcome to the 35th Edition of the Australian Deer Hunter Magazine.
We hope that you and your families have enjoyed the festive season and that Santa was good to all of you hunters. I know that Santa had to deliver man subscriptions and ADHM merchandise across the country.
This time of year can be a slow start, not just due to all the food and booze but more so from the high temperatures that are experienced this time of year. That being said its always a great time of the year to scout for Reds, Fallow and Hog deer. I still see plenty of pictures of Sambar being taken; it just shows you how lucky we are in this great country of ours to be able to hunt deer all year round minus Hog deer and the NSW closed deer season on some species.
I often have mates in America comment on just how lucky we are compared to their regulated season. Although their game species are managed by the Department of Fish and Wildlife, seasons are based on the population and health of the deer herds. That being said here in Australia there is still nothing better than that feeling of freedom you get when you grab your rifle and head out for a hunt.
This Edition is ‘Jam Packed’ with all the content you have grown to love about the Deer Hunter magazine. We feature eight big reader hunts, two reviews and seven ‘Big Technical’ articles.
Doug gets all Hog deer on us with his feature article ‘April Hog deer….. The Challenge’. Doug gives us an insight into hunting these great little deer and it’s a must read for anyone who is planning on hunting Hog deer this season.
Ross Price continues with his well-received article series Sambar Success…A guide’s perspective. We are pleased to have Ross added to ADHM’s group of well-respected technical writers.
