Woman This Month segment is quite exciting as we celebrate International Women’s Day
which will take place on March 8.
As part of our segment, we interviewed five talented women who are making waves in
Bahrain: Noor Janahi - the young entrepreneur behind the community-driven business, The
Salad Bar, Manal Alsaleh who was one of the chefs at Food is Culture, Lini Reghunath – a
digital marketing expert who overcame tremendous hardship, Fiona Slingerland a highlycertified
personal coach who has run at international races and Mona Shakib – the talented
mother behind the online cakery Retro Mama.
Aside from the highly-inspiring, prolific women in our Interview section, our team brings you
the best of beauty products, skincare essentials, fashion and online dating advice too!

In our Woman This Month segment, we explore the best of fashion, beauty and
lifestyle while keeping the cooler months in mind.
There’s no denying that Bahrain has earned a special place in the hearts of all of
those who have lived or are living in the Kingdom. We shine a light on the
extremely talented young photographer, Basma Alhashimi, who’s taken it upon
herself to share the stunning landscape and architecture of Bahrain with the world
through her incredible photography and mesmerising time-lapse videos

while keeping the cooler months in mind.

On the fashion front, we explore the FW21 collections of high-end and RTW designers to bring
you some of the most head-turning looks. We also collated a list of six beauty essentials and some
exceptional skincare that will have you looking your best throughout September.

On the interview front, we spoke to the only female representative of the
Kingdom of Bahrain at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, Rooba Al Omari, who tells
us about her training ahead of the event and her illustrious sporting career. For
our ‘In Her Shoes’ segment, we spoke to the wonderful Kristina Rowena Estero –
Head of Business Development at the British School of Bahrain.
Shades of pink were plentiful at the Giorgio Armani Prive show, and our fashion
editor was quick to give us an insight into what makes it so special. We also
collated a list of six beauty essentials that will help you throughout the summer.

Woman This Month in its usual fashion (pun intended!) brings you the best of fashion, beauty
essentials, dazzling accessories, recipes and much more including an interview with extremely
talented Roshni M. Raveendran who is the creative personality behind Style Stories by Ros.

Woman This Month is jam-packed with fun content that’s cool for the summer. While most people
dread the heat, our editorial team was overly enthusiastic about “bringing on the bright colours”
and worked on a fun fashion focus for you. They’ve also put together a bunch of beauty essentials,
skincare, and dazzling accessories to go with your wardrobe too!
On the interview front, we spoke to the ever-so-ambitious media personality and influencer, Nasreen
Sururi, who told us about how her career got started and her recent new business venture. Being a
woman of many talents, there’s plenty of inspiration here!
You’ll also enjoy cooking our delicious recipes and delving into the world of interior design with our
take on minimalism.

Our Woman This Month segment is a feast for the eyes this month as we were served a visual treat and insight into the life of Bahraini photographer, Sawsan Taher. She took us on a journey through some of her most spell-binding photographs taken on her travels to some of the world’s remote regions. For fashion and beauty, you can draw inspiration from our features that show you some of the most exciting must-haves this month.

Our Woman This Month pages take us through exciting fashion trends this summer that are bright, bold and head-turning. We also had the pleasure of diving into the brilliant mind of Reem Al Mealla – one of only two marine biologists in Bahrain. She provided us with some wonderful insight into her career, her thoughts on the environmental health of the Middle East and her thoughts views on the positive and negative effects the pandemic is having on the planet.

In BTM’s July issue, senior managers at some of the Kingdom’s most prominent hotels share how they are working to keep current guest safe and their plans for re-opening restaurant and spa facilities once the restrictions are lifted.
With Bastille Day around the corner, French Ambassador, HE Jerome Cauchard, talks about the strong relationship between the two nations. And, in Travel, Riviera hotspots are featured.

Other interviewees are ‘The Voice of Bahrain’, Nasreen Maroof, who heads Bahrain Radio; Ali Al Saeed, founder of the Museland musical collective; and the new President of the Rotary Club of Manama, Marjan Modara.

This month’s issue of Woman This Month carries the first part of our SS20 Fashion Trends Report, eight pages which shine a light on the most prominent features spotted on the season’s runways for readers to copy at home. And, for good measure, we’ve also taken a look at some of the most up-to-the-minute beauty trends too.

In interviews, we have Asna Ahmed, a counselling psychologist, who will be giving a workshop in conjunction with WTM, in Bahrain later in the year. And Dalal AlSindi talks about being the only Bahraini at the Global Women’s Forum Dubai 2020 and her Art Therapy Centre in Bahrain.

There are also roundups of news from the worlds of fashion, beauty and well-being.

The interview pages welcome Esmahan Bokhowa, the woman behind the successful Saar Mall, and Huma Ahmed, who turned grief into something positive with her book 37 Lessons on how to Gail from Loss.

In the lifestyle pages, Razan shares another of her healthy fish-based recipes, Ouiam writes on why boys should be allowed to cry and we take a walk in the shoes of PR specialist Sari Mabire.


For our 200th issue, we caught up with some very special ladies for our Women of Substance feature. We’re sure you’ll be inspired by each one of them for making a mark in their respective fields of special education, charity, medicine and engineering. We also have the Bollywood star, Jaqueline Fernandez, who some of you may have known growing up in Bahrain. Read about her new fashion collaboration with a well-known brand and what she’s up to these days. In a special feature this month, Shirley Potter tells of her experience on this year’s Jeep Wanderlust escape. Wellbeing talks about mental decline in ageing in how to stall it as much as possible. Laetitia and Theresa, the women behind liveandtaste.com, share super-healthy winter warmer recipes for you to try. And of course, there’s our regular round-ups of news from the worlds of fashion, beauty and wellbeing to keep you updated with the trends, plus much more for your reading pleasure. 

The whole island goes pink crazy in support of Breast Cancer Awareness this month. 

We met Joanne, who was so determined that the Bahrain Breast Cancer Support Group should keep going that she took over as admin herself! And Amal, diagnosed just two weeks after her wedding and now giving talks and writing about her experience. We also met Professor Ghufran Ahmed Jassim, whose doctoral research has led to an important genetic study.

Aside from all that, October is also the month when we take our biannual look at the latest new season’s fashions. Fernanda has come up with eight of the hottest trends for the season and Behnaz turned her eye to catwalk make-up trends to see what we will all be putting on our faces in the coming months.

Bahrain may be a small island but it’s certainly filled with creative so, this month, we’ve rounded-up some of the women creating unique pieces with their own hands for our Artisans feature – check them out and get inspired.

Our interviewees are Dina Bseisu, who went from high-flying executive to suffering crippling mental health issues and now she uses her experience to help other women facing similar struggles. And Mona Jumaan, who has combined her passions for travel and photography to win a prestigious international award.

The new fitness page looks at how your moods can affect your workouts; and recipe developer Razan Al Arabi shares her method for a fishy feast.

Ramadan Kareem everyone. By the time you read this, the Holy Month will be literally around the corner and we’ll all be gearing up for a month of spirituality and daily fasting followed by lush evening Iftars and Ghabgas where we’ll catch up with business contacts and friends that we often don’t make enough effort to see during the rest of the year.

To help you make the most of this special time, we’ve taken a good look at modest dressing in this issue. It’s safe to say that the days of head-to-toe black are becoming a thing of the past as women of various faiths embrace this path. In the fashion pages, Fernanda takes her cue from some superstar names who are following the trend. While in our big Ramadan feature, we look at designer and high-street options with a special focus on the recent Istanbul Modest Fashion Week. And, not forgetting our local heroines, there’s info on some of the Bahrain-based ladies making their mark with funky abayas, kaftans and more.


It’s hard to believe that wedding season is here again, but spring is in the air and it is definitely so. Brides (and grooms) across the Kingdom are turning their thoughts to matters nuptial, so we’ve rounded up the seasons hottest wedding trends – I particularly like the options of personalised favours and food trucks – the most beautiful dresses around, a selection of great venues and lots more to help your big day go with a swing. Also, this month, Fernanda takes a look at the new season’s fashion trends. Surprisingly, it turns out I’m ahead of the wave – blush pink metallics and oversized polka dots are more of a uniform in my life than a seasonal whim, I knew the rest of the fashion world would eventually catch up.

The March issue celebrates women in light of International Women’s Day, Bahraini Mother’s Day and UK Mother’s Day, for those of us who are far from our home shores. 

In our regular Imtiaz For Her Hosts pages, two mums discuss the issue of creativity in motherhood, how becoming mums has both helped and hindered them and how they’ve coped. Dr Natasa Nikolic tells of delivering a six-month ‘Miracle Baby’. And a group of inspirational women from the team at the British School of Bahrain talk about their very varied careers and the opportunities within education. 

Our cover star this month is the woman behind the international success story that is Diva Brow. She gives us a glimpse into her world, talks signature style and explains just what makes her burgeoning business so successful.

The fashion pages showcase the style of the world’s most famous mum-to-be - the Duchess of Sussex, Megan Markle and the beauty pages tackle the sometimes-thorny issue of facial hair.

With Valentine’s in mind, we had fun putting together this month’s quirky gift guide. They’re the sort of presents that will put a smile on his face and, mostly, won’t break the bank. Likewise, the suggestions for added extras that you could do together. We did gulp just a little at some of the prices on the date night page but, yeah, we’re worth it.

Elsewhere in this edition, you’ll find words of wisdom from ultra-athlete Myrna Saliba who, having taken up running in her 50s, now competes in long-distance triathlon events. 

In the beauty pages, you’ll find hair tips from celeb stylist Asgar Saboo and the tale of our search for a red lippie that stays on but is cruelty free.
