We like to have our finger on the pulse of travel trends here at British Travel Journal, and this summer we bring you ‘dual-cations’. We love to get the first scoop on exciting UK travel news here at British Travel Journal, so the launch of Una St Ives made it to the top of our travel agenda, as did one of our all-time favourite hotels, The Headland, Newquay – with the launch of their luxurious £10 million Aqua Club swimming and spa sanctuary. 
While in Cornwall's beautiful Carbis Bay we had the pleasure of meeting renowned British chef Adam Handling at his latest restaurant, Ugly Butterfly and chatted to him about cooking and his passion for zero-waste. With the spring and summer ahead and hotels and restaurants revived, it is time to fix up those exciting travel plans we have all been dreaming of. And, if our Travel News pages are anything to go by, 2022 is set to be an incredible year. From staying in a luxurious castle estate in Northern Ireland to a wellness retreat like no other in North Devon, from the finest countryside farmhouse located in the heart of Sark to the supercool ‘active relaxation’ hotel situated on the shores of Ullswater – there’s simply no shortage of inspiration.  However you choose to spend the season I hope this latest edition of British Travel Journal helps add a little sprinkle of extra magic to your upcoming travel plans, and we can all make up for lost time with our families and friends.

With complexities around overseas travel still hanging in the air and globetrotters continuing to place their plans to visit more exotic far-flung destinations on hold for something closer to home, much of the British Isles has experienced its busiest summer on record - some hotels, restaurants and landmarks, (especially those in popular tourist spots) have struggled to cope, and favoured honeypots like Cornwall have even had to resort to urging tourists to ‘stay away’.But what about our cities and other beauty spots, the ones that can still cope with visitors? Catch a performance at Stratford-upon-Avon, head to the breathtaking mountains of Scotland, or visit its capital city, Edinburgh for a taste of its flourishing new food scene. Food and drink is a theme throughout this issue, from our interview with Tom Kerridge, to the prestigious new accolade for planet-conscious cooking, the rise of English Whisky, and new premium wine region, the Vineyards of the Surrey Hills. I have personally traded Devon’s beaches for culture and picturesque waterways, staying in the heart of its historic city, Exeter, and I enjoyed a countryside weekender at Goodwood, ‘England’s greatest sporting estate’. I’m sure you’ll agree that spending so many months at home has only made our adventurous, curious hearts grow fonder with a passion for travel and exploration. I will appreciate my upcoming travel trips so much more, and it has only made my job as travel Editor, and the content in our latest issue, seem even more special than usual! Lockdown might have put a stop to many things, but it certainly hasn’t stopped the travel industry preparing to ensure a super fun and warm welcome once it is safe for visitors to return. From new hotels and luxury spas, exciting holiday resorts full of adventure and off-grid activities, luxury boutique stays in acres of unspoilt countryside and coastline, brand new attractions to immersive one-of-a-kind experiences – it seems there has perhaps never been a better time to explore the British Isles!
