LAST month at the interpack exhibition in Germany, the benefits of metal packaging were recapped in a full programme hosted by the European Metal Packaging (EMPAC) from 8-13 May. The association presented specialists from the industry to speak on new initiatives, sustainability as well as the advantages of metal for both retailers and consumers. In this issue, Crown Food Packaging North America shares results from various research on why demand for metal cans remains high. In a related report, South African companies including Nampak Bevcan, Hulamin, South African Breweries, and Coca-Cola Southern Africa, have begun their conversion from tin-lined steel to aluminium cans for beverages.
