One of the main hallmarks of DA MAN is how we try to highlight Indonesia’s ever-growing talent pool, especially promising actors, up and-coming musicians and enterprising figures who are actually making a difference. This issue is a bit unique, however. Among our feature stories, we have two very talented individuals—one of them has made it big on the global stage and is now focusing back on his original fans back home, the other has also found nationwide success and is now taking on Hollywood. The former, as you’ve probably guessed from seeing this magazine’s cover, is none other than Afgansyah “Afgan” Reza. In 2021, he shook the world with his voice and became a global sensation, producing an album in New York and working together with some of the biggest names in music from the United States and even South Korea. This year, however, was dedicated to his fans in Indonesia. Afgan was once again singing in Indonesian and performing live in Indonesia. On the other hand, we have Maxime Bouttier, a rising star in Indonesia’s film industry who has just taken his career to the next level with a major role in a major Hollywood production. He’s playing opposite George Clooney and Julia Roberts, no less. I would have liked to wrap up this part of this story with the usual “it doesn’t get any better than this” line, but I do believe that Maxime would likely accomplish even greater feats in the near future. It’s always gratifying to chronicle the journey of established talents finding new ways to go higher and rising talents making genuine breakthroughs. And I hope you these stories as enjoyable to read as it was for us to write. Happy reading...
