It is with heavy hearts that we begin our September 2018 issue, as this month we have lost one of our legendary Indian masters, Krishna Reddy; the man who led the post-colonial Indian Art Scene to great heights. On our over this month, we have London based correspondent Rajesh Punj interviewing one of the rising stars in the global scene, Matthew Ronay, whose career has been heading skyward since his first major exhibit in 2016. Vikas Harish in association with the Naithani Foundation in his essay ‘Oral Histories to Material Culture; The Making of Autochthonous Art, Origin of Shame and Sorrow’ takes us through the vibrant visual storytelling within our Indigenous art forms, and how tales from the epics and scriptures were brought into the domain of day to day life through art. For our Photo Story section this month, Contemporary photographer Sanjay Das captures the gorgeous Terracotta Monuments of Bengal through his photographic lens. Mohit Kant Mishra interviews artist Renuka Rajiv about her recent solo show KHOJ, delving into the question of identity and personal psychological space. In addition we have reviews by Upasana Bhattacharya on artist Jatin Das’s exhibition Pankha at the IGNCA; Mansi Dhiman Mandhwani on Myna Mukherjee’s curatorial ME WE reflecting the Queer communities growing voice in the contemporary political and art scenes, and Indira Lakshmi Prasad on PIDGIN: A Visual Interplay, the collaborative exhibition orchestrated by a group of emerging artists. As a feature Arr Bee (Rahul Battacharya) contributes a much needed insight into the development and nature of curation as we know it in India.

It is the middle of monsoons, the whether is sultry, and the art scene has once again started to pick up momentum. Here's opening Art & Deal's International Special edition of August 2018! Our London correspondent Rajesh Punj interviews Parisian artist Jean-Michael Othoniel who discusses his stunning glass architectural sculptures, designs and and public art. Art Historian and Curator Amit Mukhopadhyay's essay ‘Land: Origin of Shame and Sorrow’ is a blazing depiction of the global political scenario during the 2nd World War. The issue also features an insightful report by Franck Barthelemy about Sudarshan Shetty’s video work ‘Shoonya Ghar’ from the 48th Art Basel; a profile about Japanese Porcelain artist Yuji Obata; an interview of young New York based artist, sculptor and performance artist Jennifer Sullivan; and Rahul Bhattacharya’s ‘Rise of The Curatorial’, the first in a two part series commenting on the notion of curation; along with reviews by Mansi Dhiman Mandhwani and Dhiraj Singh. As bonus we have an upcoming photographer from Chennai, Surya Kathir, with his fascinating photo story about the lesser known Koovagam Festival celebrating transgenders.

Art & Deal's July 2018 issue! This month, we feature three powerful cover stories. We begin with an extensive coverage of 'Indigenous Australia', a fascinating exhibition of the Australian Aboriginal Tribal art taking place in the NGMA, New Delhi. Paris based curator Vikas Harish adds to the multitude with his captivating take on India's oral tradition of storytelling through rural folk paintings. Curator and art historian Amit Mukhopadhyay unfolds a stunning discourse about the technical and symbolic impact of pop art on the posters produced at the Atelier Populaire during the events of May 1968 in Paris and the philosophy and significance behind the movement.
Our London correspondent Rajesh Punj reports the Abu Dhabi Festival, where he interviews renowned Sarod player Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and the likes. In addition we have correspondents reviewing exhibitions from Kolkata, Mumbai and Hyderabad.
