at promoting women’s health and well-being have provided a conducive
environment for FEMTECH startups to thrive.

As we start 2024, let us pledge to make seva or selfless service an integral
part of life. Carve out time every week to help others, donating
resources or even your time, whenever you can. A small act of kindness
can open your eyes to how much you have to give. It will help build
gratitude for all you have. Further, selfless service impacts your physical
and mental health positively. Think back to the last time you did
something good for someone. How did you feel? Good, right?
In this issue, we highlight a conversation with the spiritual leader, Shri
Gauranga Das. During the conversation, he highlighted that purity of
intention is the most important requirement in life. Thirty years ago, he
decided to selflessly serve others, and for this purity of intention and
enthusiastic inspiration. This, he believes, is the crux of the concept of
serving others. With both intention and inspiration, we can have the
right kind of intelligence to make the right choices in our lives. Once the
right choices are made, we have the intensity to serve others and make
things happen.

We have been taught, what goes around, comes
around. Some people believe that if one does good
deeds in this life, there will be benefits in subsequent
lives. Research suggests, doing good activates your
brain’s pleasure center, it is called a helper’s high. For this issue, we
speak to spiritual teacher, Sister BK Shivani on aspects of karma,
leadership and much more.
On Karma she says, it is every thought, word and action. Every intention
is key to all the energy that we create and all the energy that
we create is – karam. The law of karam is that whatever happens, it
will rebound and come back. It is very simple as every karam will have
a result and a consequence. It is like a ball. If you throw it on the wall
it will come back. But the period at which this ‘ball’ will come back
might be a year, or ten years or even a hundred years. If it comes back
in a hundred years, by then you would have changed my physical
‘costume’. The karam was not done by the body, it was done by the
soul. So no matter how many times you change your body, the karam
is with you. The karmic account goes on no matter which body you
take. Our definition these days of life, birth, past life, rebirth are not
present for the soul. The soul is on a journey where it takes several
‘costumes’, interacts with people – it does its karam and also changes
its costume. Living life with that awareness makes us realise that
all that is there is the soul and our karam.

Ior most of us, our lives centre around our work. We put off
going to the gym, meeting friends or family when on an
important work project. Do statements like“Let’s meet
later”, “I will start going to the gym again after this project
gets done”, sound familiar? We are a generation that is always ‘online’.
People tend to get anxious when separated from their devices even
for a short while. I met a person at the doctor’s office who insisted on
carrying his iPad into the examination room to avoid missing out on
work emails. Add to this, the recent uncertainty in the job market
because of the layoffs, the prevailing poor working environments –
and you have a recipe for disaster.
