IT job market in India is apparently crashing. It is mayhem in IT sector. According to various reports and studies, about 2lakh job cuts are going to happen every year in next three years. This unfortunate happening is more severe than ever after globalisation. Few reasons of mass scale terminations of employees in IT companies are identified as rise of protectionist policies in US and Europe, rise of automation, decrease of hiring of Indian engineers abroad, rising rupee value to Dollar leading to lower realisations for software exports and efforts of IT majors to maintain their profits in bad weather too commonly known as cost optimisation.

It is also required for men to understand the workplace reality and read the writing on the wall. Women are fastly occupying the workplace and proving their talent, delivering the results and moving ahead. It is time for them to change their mindset and come out of gender bias syndrome. Workplace policies should not prefer someone on the basis of gender but competencies and capabilities. Maternity breaks should not be viewed as cost that prompt managements headed by men to discourage females employment but investment to support the call of nature and mankind. After all, business should not always be viewed only as pure economic activity separable from people issues. Men in the boards should give women their due with respect and dignity because woman’s desire is that she should  be recognised with her  talent and not  gender.

Another challenge in branding activity is the dramatic increase in temporary employment of employees through third party and not dealing fairly with them in terms of compensation and  legal rights. This segment is increasing and when such employees are not treated fairly; branding is going to get a dent surely. HR has to address this issue and intervene to help build a healthy work culture. It will be wrong to believe that only white collar employees can build brand. It is equally the blue collar lot which has higher say in making or breaking your image as brand employer.
