Corona Virus has put the whole world under lockdown. All economic activities has come to a standstill. People are dying at an alarming rate. When we compare the death rate in India with the rest of the world, India is very much praiseworthy. In the North Eastern Region of India, the spread of this virus is within manageable limit. Bodoland issue has been in the news  since several years. Marking an end to it, the Union Government introduced and implemented the historical Bodo Peace Accord. 2019 has ended with the nationwide unrest caused due to the introduction of the Citizenship Amendment Bill on December 11, 2019. Our cover story this month has highlighted on this heated issue which has been subjected to widespread criticism specially on the fact that Muslim community has been made in-eligible for this bill.  At the same time Meghalaya has faced unrest due to demand of Inner LIne Permit where non-tribals residing in the state were targeted.

It is interesting that the present government is on a fast track and could be able to come to conclusions on issues of national importance, which were pending since last seven decades.The scrapping of Article 370 and 35A from the constitution of
India and resolving the issue of Ram Temple at Ayodhya are the two issues, which has come to its logical conclusion.  In India, we have long list of such issues, which needs to be brought to its logical conclusion. The Naga Peace is yet another issue in North East, waiting to see the light of the day. Coming to North East, we have  highlighted the growing Jihadi elements in Assam, the delay in final settlement of peace talks of Nagaland and a lot more which will be a good read for our readers.

Floods have created havoc in several parts of India. Monsoon is considered as a boon for agriculture and farmers. But excess of it creates miseries. Recently, Bangladesh has started crackdown on militants in their own country. But, what is worrying is the fact that many of them are crossing the borders of India through Northeast borders and other Eastern states of the country. This has been confirmed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The Cover story this month has detailed about the various consequences of Bangladesh operations. Also, we have brought out the various dimension of state of affairs in Shillong, where
dispute arised at Punjabi Lane locally known as THEM IEW MAWLONG. Not only has the situation become worst to the extent that Government was forced to claim curfew which has affected the economy very badly.

The Tug Of War for the Citizenship Amendment Bill in the Northeast of India and
more so in Assam is an issue which will decide the faith of the entire Northeast of
India and more so the country in the times to come. We have tried to give brief details about the bill and take the views from both the parties who are for and against the bill. The issue of Citizenship Amendment Bill is not only sensitive but also very complicated in nature. As the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has re-iterated that all the Hindus who migrated from Bangladesh will be granted Indian Citizenship, but the indigenous Assamese communities and people of northeast India are simply not willing to accept this as the probability of them becoming minority in their own states is significantly high. There is also the feeling of threat to their Indigenous Language and Culture. In such circumstances, political maturity is required to settle the issue.

May 2018 issue brings to our readers the cover story on the existing scenario of Higher Education in India and Assam in particular, with respect to maintaining the quality of higher education in higher educational institutions.
