It’s almost the end of this year and the time to let the beginning of winter warm our hearts. Every December, as the year ends, we get our party hats on and welcome the next year to make things right. With Christmas and the New Year on the anvil, it’s time to celebrate coming out stronger, after the COVID crisis, and continue doing so.

TTJ’s December 2022 issue features a few interesting topics highlighting the hospitality business. We have targeted much about inbound travel as we have the IATO convention coming up in mid-December. Besides our interaction with the IATO convention committee, we have a few pages on Uttar Pradesh since the convention is taking place in Lucknow.

As we enter December, it is always a good opportunity to look back and ponder over the past year. The year 2023 certainly has not been an easy year by any means for the industry, but there was plenty of brightness if you knew where to look. Notably, the outbound travel sector in India has displayed remarkable growth, defying the constraints that defined the year. Travellers are now planning travel for the upcoming winter holidays of Christmas and New Year. Flight searches have risen 25-30 per cent for leisure travel during holidays, and last-minute airfares for popular routes still see a steep jump due to high travel demand.

TTJ October 2022 issue keeps its momentum of highlighting the many aspects of domestic and international travel as we hope the upcoming festival and holiday season enhances our businesses and keeps us all motivated to travel. The industry is looking for a significant rebound in 2023, and as travel grows, we are also hopeful that it will be a year when businesses will come roaring back.

The travel and tourism industry is optimistic that its current momentum will continue unabated. There is also optimism amongst industry players that the upcoming months look promising, giving the travel trade faith not just in their industry but in their individual businesses, too. It is certainly a more travel-positive marketplace out there.

As travellers increasingly accept health risks as manageable due in part to rising vaccination rates, we anticipate the year 2023 will be characterised by growth in vacations, enhanced length of stay, and travel farther from home, as against frequent weekend and local getaways.
