The theme of Launch Issue focuses on ten topics, which have been influencing our Society, namely - Health, Education, Morality, Family, Marriage, Wealth, Religion, Culture, Fairs & Festivals and Communication. The issue has been divided into six segments. ‘Reflections’ - the outlook of renowned individuals belonging to different fields; ‘Panorama’ - broad view of the theme; ‘Miscellany’ - write-ups of social significance and concern; ‘Folklore’ - a journey of our rich mythological heritage with deep yet socially relevant messages; ‘Traverse’ - places of interest; and ‘The Reading Corner’ - an area for the pleasure of mind & thoughts.

The art and craft of Sculpting involves carving, modelling and constructing, to create three-dimensional objects using various materials such as clay, stone, metal, wood etc. It is an additive technique.

The craft of Carving involves cutting away material from a piece of metal, wood, stone, or any other hard material and creating a desired shape or pattern. It is a subtractive technique.

Both, Sculpting and Carving are creative human expressions which may convey a story or powerful message, document important historical or cultural happenings, evoke emotions, and inspire innovative thinking. They enrich a society's heritage and cultural milieu.


Folklore forms an integral part of any culture. The Merriam Webster dictionary defines folklore as, “traditional customs, tales, dances, or art forms preserved among a people.” It is the unwritten literature of people, place or a group, often conveyed in the form of stories or legends and folk tales, proverbs, riddles, songs, drama, narratives, sayings, beliefs, customs etc.

India has a rich and diverse body of folklore, each being unique in itself, besides conveying certain perspective about a community. Such forms of tradition, passed on through generations, needs to preserved, shared, and celebrated.

Education, as a social institution, plays a vital role in our society and society in turn plays an instrumental role in the development of the education system and its structuring. It is the socialisation of the younger generation, transmission of social heritage & culture of a group to the next generation and a continuous process of knowledge acquisition.

According to Prof. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, “Education should be imparted with a view to the type of society we wish to build. It is an endless journey through knowledge and enlightenment. Such a journey opens new vistas of development of humanism where there is neither scope nor room for pettiness, disharmony, jealousy, hatred or enmity. It transforms a human being into a wholesome whole, a noble soul and an asset to the universe.”

Society is an amalgamation of Culture and Civilisation. Culture is connected to the inner or non-material aspect of a society, such as intrinsic values, beliefs, customs, modes of living, thinking, behaving, acting, art, literature, religion, dance, drama, music etc. Whereas, Civilisation is related to the external or material aspect, such as radio, television, telephone, mobile phone, computer etc. Culture and civilisation are inter-connected and reciprocal. Unlike civilisation, culture is continuous and cumulative, while civilisation is always advancing. The objects of civilisation i.e. artefacts, influence the objects of culture i.e. mentifacts and vice-versa. To quote
MacIver and Page, “Civilisation is what we have, Culture is what we are.” If Civilisation is the Body, Culture is its Soul.

In this Second Issue, we celebrate two Indian Legends, The Legendary Urdu Poet - Firaq Gorakhpuri and The Musical Legend - Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj. Both of them have left an indelible mark on the society through their social and cultural contributions in the form of Poetry and Music. Music, Literature and Art are important pillars through which Indian Society and Culture is reflected. This year marks the 125th Birth Anniversary of
‘Firaq’ on 28th August 2021. ‘Pandit Jasraj’ who left for his heavenly abode in August 2020 would have completed 91 years on 28th January 2021. Year 2021 is hence remarkable; thus, Celebrating The Legends.
