The December 2019 issue of Apparel brings with it a new wave of stories around people, processes, and professions.
First in line are CMAI stories centered on Curtain-raiser to the 70th National Garment Fair (NGF), which looks back at the past two fairs and tells us what to expect from the forthcoming one; the two-day, free eye check-up camp organised for the garment workmen in Vasai (East); CMAI’s Cricket Premier League (CPL); and the farewell party and welcome dinner given to Mr Rahul Mehta (outgoing president of the Association) and Mr Rakesh Biyani (incoming president of the Association) respectively.
Our ‘Feature’ section takes a close look at various textile practices and notable trends pervading the industry today. In light of this, we have stories on athleisure and its rising demand; how fashion businesses are integrating sustainability into their processes and ideologies; the priced lace of Burano island and its potential to inspire Indian fashion designers and students; global denim brands and their focus on denim sustainability; and the call for rentable fashion. Under Design Spotlight, we present the works of designer Riddhi Jain of Studio Medium, a brand-cum-design space that draws on ancient philosophies and textile traditions; Shades of India’s Mandeep Nagi, who is known for her innovative streak in the textiles sphere; and Gunjan Jain of Vriksh, who is revitalising the textiles of Odisha.
In Entrepreneur Speak, we have Sonal Jindal, managing partner of Medusa Source speaking about the logistics, supply-chain management, and sustainability in apparel; and under ‘Unique Initiative’, we feature Iti Tyagi of Craft Village, a platform that promotes India’s indigenous textiles.
