The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunar calendar. It is the second grandest festival in China after the Chinese New Year. The festival is held to give thanks for a bountiful harvest. People would also pray for a good harvest, fine weather and peace in the coming year. Due to ancient China's cultural influence and the Chinese diaspora, the tradition of the Mid-Autumn Festival has spread to other parts of the world. The festival is now celebrated in China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.
