Greetings! It is great to finally be a part of Men’s Folio Malaysia, and I am excited for what is to come. Dreams are the seeds of our deepest desires, planted in the fertile soil of our imagination. Yet, to see these dreams blossom into reality requires more than mere
wishful thinking — it demands unwavering determination and boundless passion. Leading this issue is our cover star — Jeff Satur — whose journey from aspiring artiste to celebrated figure shows the power of perseverance and passion.

It would be too easy to glint the term “high shine” for its surface-level brilliance.
That obvious glow that can be spotted from a mile away. That lustrous radiance
so bright it seems to sparkle from within. Think pavé diamond bracelets that blind

term — and the theme for Men’s Folio Malaysia’s May '24 issue — has always found

might be exemplars of “outré” fashion, but beyond the outlandish flourishes lie an

This concept of an "ultranova" encapsulates those transformative instances where fashion transcends mere clothing to become a cultural force.

There are so much the Men's Folio team holds close to our hearts this year, and
our gratitudes are overflowing as the year comes to a close. The enthusiastic
support from encouraging readers and the talented contributions from

The challenges we have navigated have become stepping stones to learn and grow,
and we're genuinely grateful for them.

There is always room to be different — to act upon our greatest desires, slip into the uncomfortable, and perhaps ignore the rules just for once. Wise words we applied for this November '23 issue — made up of ideas we once scraped, initially removed by the team for fear that not many would understand the premise. Some of them were centred around alternative personalities in Malaysia, while others sought to grapple a different approach to how we view local and international fashion. I used to believe the time was not yet right for Men’s Folio Malaysia to be seen as anything but quintessentially classic. After all, its memory amongst Malaysians embraces subtle fashion nuance and a certain maturity.

There's something quite intriguing about us humans – we have this knack for seeing ordinary things through a human lens. It's like we discover emotions in animals, personalities in inanimate objects, and even intentions in algorithms. It speaks to our fundamental need for connection and our boundless imaginations.

But, here's the twist: sometimes, our tendency to humanise the non-human can lead us down some puzzling paths. We often wish our technology could be just like us, seeking companionship in chatbots, desiring empathy from AI, and even granting our gadgets their own unique personalities. Yet, as we navigate this world increasingly driven by technology, we must proceed with care. Fashion has always been intrigued by duality. The idea that two seemingly conflicting elements can converge to create something entirely new has always been its sheer driving force. Covering all of its bases through design and styling, it is a theme that transcends all aspects of dress that has played a significant role in its evolution.

The universe began with a bang, not any ordinary one but a big one.
Scientists theorised it as the Big Bang — a hot, dense and infinitely
small point, known as a singularity, rapidly expanded in a massive
explosion approximately 13.8 billion years ago. This expansion caused
the universe to cool and allowed matter and energy to form, eventually
forming galaxies, stars and planets.

In many ways, how things are today mirrors the Big Bang. Societies,
institutions and beliefs began as a theory, a concentration of ideas, and
even hopes and dreams before being brought to life through action and
over time. Men's Folio March 2023 issue takes the theme of Big Bang as
well, firstly as an ode to the Men's Folio March large format tradition. The
issue also explores changing narratives around the fashion industry,
starting with a concentration of ideas and concepts from the Men's
Folio team.

The Men’s Folio February ’23 issue is the curtain raiser for the year. A year filled with endless possibilities, exciting projects and inspiring stories to share. First of which is the February ’23 issue themed Love, First, a play of the word lovers. In this issue, Men’s Folio explores communities where love is expressed in different ways.

This month, SonaOne graced our cover wearing the OMEGA Speedmaster ‘57 Co-Axial Master Chronometer Chronograph 40.5 MM watch. "The way I approach the creative process of writing music, the way that I dress, the messages and stories that I touch on are all an extension of who I am, and if you spend enough time listening to my works, you’d have a good sense of the person I am, as well as the journey I took to get here," he said during the photo shoot.

“Fashion will always be one of the most important things in my personal and professional life. I love fashion for as long as I can remember. Currently, I’m obsessed with oversized pieces and striking colours. My favourite brands at the moment are Onitsuka Tiger, Prada, Dior, Fendi, Versace, Gucci, Tom Ford, Louis Vuitton, Bonia, Rizman Ruzaini and Kitwoo,” said Hael. Donned head to toe in items from Onitsuka Tiger’s Autumn/Winter 2022 collection.

Themed “Young Heroes”, we not only restlessly cast around for individuals, but also brands that are bold and venturesome. On the cover, we have raising Malaysian stars Meerqeen and Zhen Ning, with Montblanc 1858 GMT Automatic Date and Montblanc Extreme 3.0 thin document case. “Despite [our] different backgrounds, languages and religions, we respect each another as equal; that’s easier said than done,” said Meerqeen in the interview. “I’m proud to be a Malaysian because there’s a multitude of rich cultures that connects everyone. And then, of course, there’s the wide range of local cuisines that guarantee to tickle the taste buds!” Zhen Ning added.

Actor Hisyam Hamid graced our cover this month wearing the new Rado Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Diver watch. When asked what does he take pride in the most, Hisyam replied: “Discipline and professionalism. Since day one, I’ve been telling myself that whenever I work with a new production house, I have to make them feel that, ‘Hey, it was easy to work with Hisyam’. I also make it a point to tell myself that others may beat me in terms of acting or popularity but I will never let them beat me when it comes to having good self-discipline,” he said.
