A time to talk, walk - and keep toasty warm.
Winter is usually the season when life slows down a little. Our local Hawke's Bay crops are being rested and paddocks sown with grass; sheep now litter the fields instead of corn, snow appears on the Kaweka and Ruahine Ranges, smoke drifts lazily from chimneys at the first sign of frost, and the charred scent reminds us that winter is truly here.

Summer has rolled around again we all look forward to the long hot lazy days of the holiday season.  In this edition explore the History of the Art Deco buildings in Hastings, explode the myths about moths and sample the delectable flavors of the locally produced  beer and gin.

Spring is back in Hawke's Bay and with this the team at Living Hawke's Bay have hand picked articles to celebrate this season of life and vitality.  A morning with the iconic Topp Twins, celebrating  Sporting Supermums, exploring the public gardens in Wairoa and the usual features showcasing the food, drink and landscape of this spectacular region of New Zealand

Finding people of all ages and stages living lives they quite possibly consider to be perfectly normal, but to us reveal the many facets of Hawke’s Bay living that make it the most beautiful place to be. 
As we delved into the content planned, we discovered a recurring theme. So we’ve termed it the ‘feel-good’ issue, for it is filled with features which can only make you smile. 


As sure as day follows night and Autumn follows Summer, the cool will come, and we can look forward to watching the trees turn on their blindingly beautiful vision of fiery brilliance.
In our newest issue, we’re embracing the sense of camaraderie with some revealing features which invite you into the lives of those who form the heartbeat of our region. And provide hygge through their very special contribution to our lives.

In our very special part of the world we are fortunate to be far enough away to enjoy just ‘being’. Our summer conjures up thoughts of the sun hot and high in the sky, the wind warm, the sea a crystal sheet of glass. In the orchards fat fruit drops from laden trees and roadside berries are warm in the pickers’ hands. Bees buzz lazily, groggy with nectar, and farm dogs bark at sheep in yards swirling with dust. This is summer in Hawke’s Bay.

Spring is in the air, a time to say goodbye to the damp, dark days of winter and revel in the delight of longer days and the warm sun.
This issue celebrates all things Hawke's Bay, take the fabulous Harcourts Hawke’s Bay Arts Festival as an example — that’s a success story if anything is. Or the stunning marriage of two Hawke’s Bay locals, underwater at our National Aquarium.  Then there is Charity Norman — international bestselling author now living in Napier  and, of course, for full Wordsworthian glory, nothing beats a sea of brilliantly coloured daffodils such as those at Taniwha in Takapau. Autumn is here and in every edition we meet more amazing locals with stories to tell about the locations, produce, businesses and people of the Bay, we are having a ball putting this magazine together showcasing all that is great in our slice of New Zealand in Hawke's Bay.

What does summer in Hawke's Bay mean for you? For us it means long hot days spent swimming at Waimarama beach or pick-nicking at Lake Waikaremoana with a chilled rosé. It is also strolling around the Hawke's Bay Farmers' Market with a coffee in one hand and a brioche in the other.
We live in a beautiful part of the world and we're surrounded by kind, interesting and inspirational people who make our community what it is.
