“Fashion is a mirror of the era in which we live,” the late Italian journalist, Franca Sozzani once said. It is a school of thought that extends into every issue we put together, a contemplation of reality and subsequently, an expression of the cultural zeitgeist through our unique lens.

The May issue themed “A New Perspective”, is a redesigned way of seeing and perceiving the world. It is an ethereal vision brought to life not only by the Men’s Folio team but also informed by the point of view of generations of unabashed talents.

Fronting the cover is 24-year-old Singaporean athlete Loh Kean Yew dressed in the iconic Ralph Lauren Polo Shirt that is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The history-making badminton player who took home the Badminton World Federation World Championship title gives us an in-depth look into his trajectory thus far and what lies in the road ahead.

Equally riveting is “In His Orbit” (page 100), a reflection on Buckminster Fuller’s Radical Curiosity: In the Orbit of Buckminster Fuller exhibition housed at the ArtScience Museum. An unpacking of Fuller’s fascinating mind, alongside that of noteworthy contemporary artists, architects, and designers, the feature is a buffet spread for the intellect. To end, we’ve also sat down with Universal Music Singapore’s youngest signee Syaz Smooth (page 98) to dig deeper into the psyche of a young local artist.
Through our curation of punchy visuals and beautifully strung together with dialogue, the May issue is representative of a unified inquisition into the life that we, and the many bright minds whom we have collaborated with, have embarked on. Hopefully, this is the catalyst you needed to form your own unique worldview.
