Born in Belgium to Northern Irish parentS (her father is a diplomat),  Maxwell was raised in Belgium until she was 13 years old, where she attended the European School, Woluwe. Throughout her career, she has advertised Alexander McQueen, Asos, Ermanno Scervino, H&M, Puma, River Island, Urban Outfitters, Vianel, and Victoria's Secret. She walked for Fashion Rocks, Giles, Jeremy Scott, Marc Jacobs, Moschino, Victoria's Secret, Chanel, Fendi, Balmain and others.

She has done editorials for several fashion magazines including 7000, Bullet, Dossier, Dress to Kill, Elle, Elle Italia, Elle UK, Glamour, i-D, Interview, Jalouse (fr), Madame Figaro, Mixte, Numero,, Purple, The Last Magazine, Vogue España, Vogue Italia, Vogue Japan, and Vogue UK.
