Starting with our cover story, the well-known Oscar statuette is changing—or changing back. For the first time in 33 years, it will be returning to its bronze form. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences earlier this year brought on the Polich Tallix foundry to not only return it to bronze but to get it as close to the original Oscar statue, which dates back to 1928. I encourage you to check out our story on the process of making the Oscar.

Also in this issue, well-known artist Mauro Oliveira has created Living with Oscars, a series of paintings. We had the great joy of sitting down with him and learning about his amazing life story and this beautiful series of hand-painted Oscars on framed wood canvas that are well over five feet tall and, without a doubt, are statement pieces.

Keeping up with the traditions of the red carpet, this season we bring you our “Underwater Red Carpet” gowns in the fashion pages of this issue. This is not only a beautiful shoot but a very touching one. It was produced with the charity Face Forward, which provides pro bono emotional support and reconstructive surgery to victims of violent and disfiguring crimes, such as domestic violence, human trafficking or any other criminal acts of cruelty. Thank you to the celebrities who got into the gowns and in the water with some of the survivors, and thank you to designer Dalia MacPhee for your beautiful gowns. Also a great thanks goes to Gisele Lubsen—one of the most talented underwater photographers here in L.A. To learn more about Face Forward, please visit www. faceforwardla.org.

Other profiles in this issue that should not be missed include Michael Habicht, one of West Hollywood’s best event planners to know this season; florist and event planner Jeff Leatham from the Four Seasons Los Angeles; and Marc Friedland, who is responsible for those beautiful Oscar invites along with the well-known envelopes and “the winner is” cards that come out with each Oscar presenter.
