Ever slammed a door out of frustration? Yelled at a spouse when they call you at the wrong time? Lost your temper over something seemingly insignificant? If you could analyze these events and determine the factors leading up to your momentary loss of control of your behavior, you might realize that several smaller stressors took place that day – a bad night’s sleep, skipping breakfast, traffic, and arriving late for a meeting. If these events happened on different days, you would have been able to maintain composure. Because they happened in close succession, your reaction was seemingly disproportionate to the event that triggered you. You were faced with a minor stressor and reacted in a major way.
