Did you adopt your cat or did you buy her?
If you’re an animal enthusiast like me, you’ll find yourself rushing to the rescue of every fuzz ball and every critter that you happen upon. It’s a difficult place to be in. You try to take as many as you can. I used to smuggle many kittens home in my schoolbag, and keep them in secret, so that my mother wouldn’t throw me out for bringing one more animal home! The pets that we have are all adopted. We have two dogs and three cats. We originally adopted one dog and one kitten. Mylo is the dog, and we mated him, and out of the litter that came, we picked one pup to keep. Meap is the cat. My brother picked her up from the roadside. She was one amongst three kittens living in a gutter. We weren’t able to rescue the other two as they hid away from us.
How did you feel when you took her home?
When we brought the little kitten back home, we were very excited! We felt very protective of her because she was separated from her siblings, and in a completely foreign environment. We always kept her company, especially when feeding and sleeping. She only lived on our laps, except when she needed to relieve herself. We began deciding what to name her from the moment we picked her up. She was very scared for a long time in the beginning, but holding her kept her somewhat calm. It took her a week to accept us as family and settle down to her new home. Of course, all the delicious food we enticed her with had a large role in keeping her from running away!
What preparations did you make so that your cat feels welcome at home?
