Berkeley Balls won their first open team chase in the Skinner’s Pet Foods national championship qualifi er at the Berkeley with a bold round over a hilly, varied track
THE young squad set out with great intent, Hector Baker and Cutie flying the second fence, a substantial hedge with drop, while at the back of the field Becca Bullock survived a hairy leap from Pirate.
Running on over a course shortened due to rain-sodden land on the lower part of New Park Farm they pressed on to one of the feature fences, a hedge with wide ditch in front. Here, Becca’s luck ran out as she skidded to a halt, while Hector and Connor Baker and Lucas Lingham galloped back down the hill. They got a tight turn between the rejigged fences 18 and 19 and bunched up to get into the pen together.
