RED ROCK III OWNER: Tracey Veale

RIDER: Victoria Hesford

THE coloured show cob (pictured, above and right) ended his 2021 season with a win, a second and two reserve championship titles at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS). After his visit to the NEC Red, who is ridden by show producer Victoria Hesford during the season, returned home to his owner Tracey Veale.

“He had a month out in the field and he’s now back in gentle work,” explained Tracey, who juggles Red around her job at a care home. “I hack him about three to four times per week, and usually head out with my friend. We meet up and ride for a couple of hours, making use of the woodlands in the local area. He’s a really chilled horse and is a bombproof hack.”

Red is somewhat of a celebrity at Tracey’s workplace.

“I work with 18 residents and they’re constantly asking for updates,” says Tracey. “He’s got a real fan club and any news on Red brightens up their day.

On Christmas Day Tracey ensures Red is treated like a king.

“He gets a stocking and has a festive hat and pyjamas to wear,” says Tracey, who has aims for Red to recommence his dressage career in the New Year. “He also enjoys a special breakfast with extra apples, carrots and mints.

“I work in the kitchen at the care home on Christmas Day so Red will be fed at around 7am and then in the afternoon we’ll head out for a mooch as the roads are so quiet.
