THE British Horse Society (BHS) is urging equestrians to help protect off-road routes for the future — but a law change is needed to protect riders themselves, a bridle ways group has warned.
The BHS has extended its annual Ride Out UK initiative to cover all of May. An aim of the month is to encourage riders to record the routes they use before the 2026 deadline, to ensure future generations can benefit.
BHS director of access Mark Weston told H&H unless routes are recorded on councils’ definitive rights-of- way maps by that time, they will no longer be available for riders’ use.
