UNSEASONABLY heavy rain has led to a string of postponements and cancellations at shows and events across the country.
The bad weather forced Bakewell Show to call off its Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) ridden showing qualifiers last week (2-3 August), as well as showjumping and private driving classes.
The Derbyshire event has never been fully cancelled since the Second World War, but waterlogged ground meant all but a handful of in-hand classes were called off by Thursday.
H&H showing reporter Tricia Johnson said she had not seen conditions like it in more than 25 years of attending the show.
“The going in parts of the centre ring went from deep to bottomless. The other rings looked worse with ‘lakes’ but in fact were riding better,” she said.
