Just Michael Whitaker on Viking and William Whitaker on Utamaro D’Ecaussines will compete as individuals in Gothenburg (23-27 August).
This allows selectors to focus on the Nations Cup, the last second division leg of which takes place in Gijon from 30 August.
H&H has reported it was less critical Britain was in the second tier this year as the 2017 Europeans do not carry Olympic qualification. Next year’s World Equestrian Games (WEG) is the first chance to qualify, so it is important to win promotion by then (news, 5 January).
