Reimagining Design For The Future

With dense cities and techno-driven audiences becoming a reality, design has taken a sharp turn towards being edgy, yet rooted in tradition, experimentative in terms of materials, creative with forms, and leaving no stone unturned to maximise space and amplify experience through all possible means. While on one side, aluminium facades are becoming popular, architects are revisiting old brick facades for their roots in tradition. Restoration of old buildings is met with graphic design to offer an immersive and everlasting experience and the focus has shifted from creating spaces to creating memories.

Our architectural tour takes us to four distinct destinations. Gisele Borges Arquitetura’s stunning residential building in Brazil boasts a unique narrow pyramidical shape that provides a solution for future design in densely populated cities. Moment Factory and Schroders’ innovative hotel lobby in Paris immerses guests in imaginary worlds, fusing scenography, architecture, and multimedia while Tropical Space’s brick home design blends modern structures with traditional materials to achieve a beautiful amalgamation of both worlds. Finally, the House of Ettehadieh, a 150-year-old architectural and urban manifestation in Tehran, reminds us of the importance of preserving our past architectural heritage.

BOLD IDENTITY: Centro, Brazil

Constructed in a narrow plot with a width of 12.7 meters the Casamirador Savassi residential building, located at Minas Gerais, Brazil, features boldly designed architecture that stands out in the local landscape. The building designed by Gisele Borges Arquitetura has 14 lofts and 24 studios and is spread over nine floors. The challenge of its volumetric mathematics, to respect distances, was one of the factors that influenced nonobvious decisions, resulting in architecture being created with its own identity.
