Developing a skillset in real-time graphics is in higher demand today than it has ever been, with studios looking to replace their slow pre-rendered pipeline with highly responsive and interactive alternatives. Alongside this there are many companies looking to break into the emerging field of VR, and all of this runs in tandem with existing users such as the video games industry, which is continuing to grow year on year!

While taking a project into Unreal Engine can be relatively simple, there are still a lot of settings to contend with and issues that can arise that you might not know how to correct. This tutorial, set high up in the Himalayas, will go over my general workflow for setting up a scene, how to tackle lighting, and how to export final stills and videos. Along the way we will dive into some common issues and how to resolve them, such as flickering ray traced shadows and making your game launch whilst looking through a custom camera. Finally we will go over some simple tricks in Photoshop to create a final render that breaks the rules a little to cover some of Unreal’s shortcomings for this project.
