This ’49 Mercury is his current project car that was completed in November 2018, but he also owns a twin spinner Ford and has had various other hobby cars in the past. Three years work went into the original matching numbers Mercury to get it into the condition you see here.
To keep the heritage of the car intact, Vince retained that valuable matching numbers engine and had Graham at High Talk Engines bore it .030” oversize and fit it with high comp flat top pistons, but otherwise it was left basically stock with a hydraulic cam and Navarro heads. The bores are fed by Stromberg 97 carbies on a Navarro intake manifold and there’s an ICE distributor firing off the mixture. A custom exhaust by Roy at Custom Classic Exhaust consists of headers that feed into a two inch twin system with Hot Dog mufflers. Cooling is handled by the stock radiator with engine driven fan and the stock three speed manual transmission with column mounted shifter has been retained.
