Now you okes all know how you can be living your life all lekker and then how things can suddenly go wrong and how your whole world can come crashing down around you. Well, an ugly thing like that almost happened to me on the way to graft yesterday morning…
So there I am skieting along on my Bonneville cutting in between the morning traffic and I’m jolling down through the bottom sweep past the Turffontein Racecourse when just as I’m powering out of the curve and beginning to feel the boney’s front end starting to straighten out my bike catches this half splutter and I instantly know that I’m running out of juice and so my hand skiets down to switch the petrol tap onto reserve but then when it gets there I feel that the tap’s already on reserve because like a moegoe I forgot to switch it back the last time I filled up and so now I’ve got no petrol and I quickly check at my speedo and I’m doing just over one-forty and so I pull in the clutch and freewheel towards the Caltex garage that’s sitting about half a kay further down the road.
But now of course with all the potholes and bags of rubbish lying in the street I end up having to dab the anchors a few times and so by the time I eventually get to the petrol station the pomp-jockie oke’s already busy waiting for me and wiping the petrol nozzle on the bum of his overall and checking me out a bit skeef as I skop out my side-stand and pop open the petrol cap. It’s just as I’m pulling out my wallet that I check that there’s also another Bonneville standing at the next pump next to mine with its rider checking me and my boney out and shaking his head.
