Fred Fensham from Husqvarna South Africa always does things a bit differently and diverges from the norm, and this launch was no different!
Sure, he could have taken us to several locations in and around Johannesburg to experience Husqvarna’s new line up, but why not do things differently and take us to the land of enduro in Lesotho! The independent country nestled within the heart of South Africa, being an ideal location to explore the mountains and wilderness that make up this captivating country. Anyone that rides a dirt bike of any shape or form knows about the Roof of Africa which is held in the mountains of Lesotho and has become known as the ‘Mother of Hard Enduro’.
Now, I must mention that even though I am a well seasoned rider and capable of riding just about anything, it has been years since I had done any serious enduro riding; and having gained a lot more traction (kg’s) over the years, the mere thought of riding here was daunting. We’ve all heard horror stories and tall tales of riders being stuck on impassable routes and being stranded in the Maluti mountains for hours, so to say I was a little anxious would be an understatement. I did however, find comfort in the fact that I was with other journalists whose skills also varied - so I was not alone.
We arrived at the Ramabanta Trading Lodge late Tuesday afternoon and were greeted by Fred and the team from Husqvarna South Africa, as well as Charan Moore with his team from Live Lesotho. Charan and his team are responsible for running the Roof of Africa and their new event -The Retro Roof. Needless to say, he knows almost every nook and cranny of Lesotho.
