Within six years of launching the first truck, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has achieved a financial break-even.
By not taking the decision to hike the prices of its trucks post the migration to BSIV mid last year, DICV made a mark for itself. Starting to manufacture trucks and buses completely locally in 2008 and officially announcing the start of the business in 2012, DICV has managed to instil itself quite well. The visibility of its trucks and buses is growing and should reflect their rising acceptance and popularity. A wholly-owned subsidiary of Daimler AG, Germany, DICV as a full-fledged CV player in India continues to clock good growth while using its manufacturing footprint at Chennai to export trucks and parts to more than 50 markets. The CVs that it exports are badged as Mercedes Benz, Fuso, and Freightliner. Producing and selling trucks in the nine to 55-tonne GVW category and buses in the lighter, heavier and premium luxury segments, the CV maker has achieved a financial break-even within six years of launching the first truck.
