It was early April, and the shelter-in-place order for the COVID-19 virus was just starting, but people were already getting cabin fever. MotorTrend tech center manager Jason Scudellari and Hek Valdez were cruising their trucks on a Sunday in Huntington Beach, California. As Jason told us, &ldquo;After we parked, Patrick Wagenbrenner started shooting our trucks, while telling us to move out of the way. He was with Keystone Automotive Operations making social media content. After some discussion, they decided to organize a cruise the next Sunday in an effort to draw a few more cars.<img oheight="283&quot;" owidth="561" src="https://magarticles.magzter.com/articles/5690/489513/5f22826e72194/1596097100256.jpg"" owidth=561 oheight=283" style="width: 561px; height: 283px;" />Well, that first &ldquo;official&rdquo; cruise drew 35 cars and trucks. What had become known as the Quarantine Cruise has grown organically over social media. With additional help from Ken Johnson, the second and third meetings saw 135 and 500 cars participate, and the most recent cruise exploded to more than 1,500 cars. All along, participants were asked to either stay in their cars or to comply with social distance and personal protection guidelines. Participation has been a wide mix of people from kids to celebrities, but the common thread is that they are all hot rodders that wanted to get out and drive in the fresh coastal air and sunshine of Southern California.
