Movie star Imran Khan tests a 3-pointed star — the Mercedes-Benz AMG GTS.
“I always geek out at the sight of carbon-fibre” says a visibly excited Imran Khan, examining the bright yellow Mercedes-Benz AMG GTS adorning his driveway. This is a space that has been embellished by many movie stars and their equally glamourous chariots — and yet here he is, whistling under his breath, caressing the louvres of the Merc, much to the puzzlement of his pet cats, who stare somewhat coldly at the creature that has hijacked Imran’s affections. Aware of his fondness for all things automotive, we decided to ask the actor if he could spare a few hours and give us a fresh perspective on the supercar of the season. He obliged and, soon enough, placed himself square behind the alcantara-bathed steering wheel of one of Mercedes’ biggest guns. The third wheel in this celestial affair, I decided to tag along just to see how well the two stars got on.
Remarkably, as it turned out. I’m aware that supercars populate the realm of movie stars all the time, with the two often basking in each others’ aura, but this seems different, given how quickly Imran has familiarised himself with his new surroundings — evidently a low slung seating position, with an imperious V8 stretching out up front, is a view he’s familiar with. I decide to dig into his car history, while he digs into the footwell, a loud bi-turbo V8 growl flagging off the journey.
