The traditional Manali-Leh route has been a popular ride amongst bikers the world over. But Hanle isn&rsquo;t something that has been witnessed by many. After surviving the tough trails that snaked alongside the beautiful Pangong Tso lake, our entourage of about fifty Royal Enfield motorcycles arrived in Hanle enchanted by the beauty of the Hanle valley.We arrived in Hanle a bit quicker than rest of the gang and decided to halt for them to join in. As the sun began to set, one of the fellow riders suggested, &ldquo;Lets get some chai!&rdquo;. Riding through the quaint town of Hanle, we went looking for some green tea while the Indian Astronomical Observatory gleamed under the shining sun sitting atop Mount Saraswati in the distance.No chai was to be found though. Hanle isn&rsquo;t your regular tourist destination. The living conditions are harsh almost throughout the year and the locals keep to their business of animal husbandry.There are only a handful of home stays in the Hanle town, but rest are all camp sites in the outskirts of Hanle. Once we figured out this, we headed straight to our camp site which was about 5-6km outside of Hanle. Luckily, we early arrivals escaped the approaching thunderstorm and reached the camp site just in time before the downpour began.The rest of the riders were not so lucky and they all crawled into the community tent drenched, shivering and cursing under their breath. One of the rider even said, &ldquo;If you hate us so much, might as well hand us over to the neighbouring military force.&rdquo; The joke hit all fo us a bit late but suddenly the community tent went bustling with laughter while sipping on steaming hot cups of tea.It rained almost all of evening and all of night. None of us could get out of the tents to see the famed starlit night sky at Hanle. Heck, we could barely get to the dinner tent to grab a quick bite and run back to our tents and the Godsent sleeping bags.The morning after though, we woke up to a gorgeous sight of the surrounding mountains wrapped in cotton candy clouds under a glowing blue sky. None of us really wanted to leave Hanle and move to our next destination of Tsokar. Alas, we had to be on the move. But each one of us made a promise to visit the Hanle valley again on a motorcycle with elaborate plans. Amen.
