Apple’s smallest iPad has been getting squeezed from both sides: phones are encroaching ever closer to its 7.9-inch size, and the 9.7-inch iPad is available for a temptingly low price. it’s an awkward spot, but this latest version cleverly finds a new identity by packing in the same powerful internals and screen tech as the new iPad Air, but making that power even more portable. it makes for a great machine, but one that’s not as versatile as the iPad Air.
