Thousands of people are set to descend on Donington Park, the spiritual home of truck racing in the UK, in late July for a festival that celebrates all that is good about trucks, drivers and life on the road. With a wealth of entertainment planned throughout the weekend – both on the track and off it – there is something for everyone.

On-track action

The centrepiece of the on-track action will be round five of the British Truck Racing Championship. This season’s racing has been as close as ever in both divisions. In Division 1, 2017 champion Ryan Smith has been setting the pace, but rivals Stuart Oliver and David Jenkins are in hot pursuit.

With its reverse grids mixing up the order, there is always plenty of overtaking and close racing. See page 72 for a review of round three at the Nürburgring in Germany. Round four was taking place as T&D went to press.

There is also a full programme of support series racing. This includes the UK Legends, based on 5/8-scale replicas of 1930s Fords, Chevys and Dodges; the Classic 2CV Racing Championship; Pickup Truck racing; and the Britcar Endurance Championship, where GT Supercars, production-based sports cars, touring cars and hot hatches compete in a multi-class system.

Show trucks

Off-track, there will be more than 1000 trucks on show – everything from heavily customised US show trucks to classics from yesteryear, to working trucks that their owners take pride in and which will be back on the road working come Monday morning.

Like last year, there will be 25 show truck categories to compete in so there will be plenty of winners on display.

The Scania Village, sponsored by Keltruck, saw a record breaking 424 Scanias parked there last year and there are likely to be more this year. Each truck displayed in the Scania Village will receive a goodie bag.
