The penultimate round of the 2017 BTRA British Truck Racing Championship, held at Pembrey circuit in South Wales, proved to be a brash and brutal affair
Ryan Smith (MAN, number 1 above) kept his nose clean and was on great form, taking two wins in the BTRA Division 1 category to further extend his lead at the top of the Championship.
He’s assured to retain the number 1 plate in the final event of the 2017 season – at Brands Hatch in Kent on 4/5 November – but final points won’t be clarified until an appeal regarding the results at the previous Snetterton event, round 6, is heard.
But the battle for runner-up spot in the Championship looks like it will go all the way to the last race, with just 16 points separating four contenders – Stuart Oliver (Volvo) and MAN racers Dave Jenkins, Shane Brereton and Mat Summerfield.
Oliver vs Jenkins
Oliver was a consistent scorer at Pembrey – in the top four in every outing – while Jenkins had mixed fortunes after suffering some mechanical gremlins. But these two are likely to go wheel-to-wheel at the Brands Hatch final.
