Astaguru’s upcoming Southeast Asian contemporary art auction offers works that tell gripping stories of today
Premium online auction house AstaGuru extends their Contemporary art segment with their upcoming ‘Southeast Asia Contemporary Art’ edition, which takes place on the 24th & 25th of June, 2018. The Kala Ghoda-based auction house is broadening their horizon and expanding their product category avenues. After having recently conducted their first Rare Books auction in May 2018, they now present for the very first time works of artists based in China, Singapore, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Nepal, Pakistan & Bangladesh alongside leading Indian contemporaries. The scale and coverage they present through this auction with regards to Southeast Asia’s art culture has never been presented by any other Indian auction house before and makes Astaguru a pioneer in this capacity. A key highlight of this segment is the lot by Chinese master Zhang Xiaogang titled ‘Heaven No. 4’ from the year 2010, which adorns the cover of their catalogue. The said work precisely gives us a formidable understanding of the sentiment of Chinese art, which has been taking the world by storm, while the lot by Yiming Chen displays the characteristics and demeanor of Chinese countenance and posture with technical supremacy.
