How Does Atherton Compare to Tennis Star and World Icon, Serena Williams… Let’s Find Out

The Serena Of Mountain Biking

Rachel Atherton extended her World Cup winning streak to 14 races following her recent victory at the UCI World Cup Downhill season opener in Lourdes.

Having endured a perfect season in 2016 and a near-perfect one the year before, in Lourdes she once again dominated her rivals. At one point she was 3.8 seconds up on her closest challenger on the three-minute run before crossing the line 2.579s ahead of the next quickest on the timesheets.

As her stock continues to rise, we assess how she stacks up against arguably the best sportswoman in the world, Serena Williams…

TITLES

Atherton: Already, Atherton is a five time World Cup champion and has won 33 rounds on the cup circuit in all. In addition, she has been a four-time world champion and boasts nine national championships in total. In addition, she was named Laureus World Sportsperson of the Year at the end of 2016.

Williams: The American boasts 23 singles titles, which currently leaves her just shy of the record 24 set by Margaret Court, seven apiece of which have come at both Wimbledon and the Australian Open. In addition, she is a quadruple Olympic gold medallist.
