Though not airborne, in low humidity conditions (RH &lt; 40%), small virus droplet nuclei are formed from the droplets in the air, which shrink in size due to the process of evaporation and desiccation. These smaller particles can remain airborne for hours. Other than cough and sneeze generated aerosols, dust particles in the air can also carry the virus. The usage of a typical central air conditioner decreases the airborne concentration of COVID-19 due to its mechanical ventilation cum filtration system that draws in adequate fresh air, thereby reducing the risk of transmission through air. Besides, both central and residential air conditioners control the temperature and maintain Relative Humidity between 40% - 70% which is ideal for avoiding the propagation of the COVID-19 virus. The same is the case when you use ducted split air conditioning systems as well as packaged air conditioning systems.Even the experts at the European Federation of HVAC associations, REHVA headquartered in Belgium and the Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating &amp; Air Conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE) agree that home ACs do not pose any additional risk of COVID-19 infection when people follow social distancing norms or are living with known occupants.Hence, it is imperative to use ACs in offices and factory set-ups as well as at home.
