Use of PCR (Post Consumed Recycled Waste) is on rise globally. While Biodegradable plastics are growing, people have started realizing the Pros and Cons of the same and they cannot be used everywhere. Use of material based on virgin plastic and paper made of virgin wood pulp is on decline as a part of the sustainability move. Of course, the use of zero virgin plastic or fibre in any packaging material is going to be the ultimate dream, and it’s a big challenge too! Naturally, priority is being given to material made of renewable resources.

Not an option anymore It is evident that sustainability is no longer an option for any manufacturer. It has become an essential part of future business planning for all of us in the packaging industry. In the recent times, sustainability movement has evolved out of consumer expectations.

Sustainable packaging is just not an additional tag on your product promotions nor it is just a value addition. It’s more and more expected from brands; customers judiciously follow product designs that are maximum recyclable, light in weight yet strong in nature and least waste resultants.

Sustainable packaging is no longer seen as a bonus or a value-added feature. Instead it’s expected that brands will produce designs that are lighter, more recyclable and less wasteful. In making purchasing decisions, the executives are increasingly bound to know the total product story which comprises information right from the source detail to how it is being made and what are its recycling credentials.

While several companies across the globe strive hard to achieve sustainability goals, most of the consumers perception is otherwise. Creating the confidence among the customers that companies are acting responsibly is also vital.
