Pakistani Designer, Mohsin Naveed Ranjha Of MNR Design Studios, Reveals What He Finds Beautiful In Bollywood. Analita Seth Listens Intently
Pakistani designer Mohsin Naveed Ranjha’s hallmark is ornate and elaborate drapes for both men and women. His outfits with vintage embroidery and modern cuts have fascinated the global alleys of fashion and of course Bollywood. He sums up his style as a fusion of the classic and contemporary. He derives inspiration from the Mughal era, his aim being to make women look regal and exotic like the begums of yore. Revisiting the past to embellish the present seems to be his mantra...
How did fashion and styling come to you?
When I was young, my ultimate dream was to become a painter. But being born and raised in a family dealing with textiles, I decided to take the midway and become a designer instead. This allowed me to pursue my dream as an artist and to support my family business as well.
Was it difficult to begin in this profession?
It’s hard to start anything from scratch. For me, it was still feasible as my family was already in the textile industry. But success never comes easy. I also had my fair share of hardships. By the grace of God that never pulled me back. Instead it made me stronger and more determined to reach my goals.
When did you get your first big break?
When I showcased my first collection in Lahore called Chaap Tilak in 2016.
