She’s out conquering the West but her heart is firmly tethered to all things back home. Priyanka Chopra is adding to the global reputation of Indian actors. Quantico, her popular TV series on American airwaves; has put the spotlight right where PC enjoys it the most. Back home she has the gritty drama, Prakash Jha’s Jai Gangaajal, in the offing not to mention the mythic wonder of Bajirao Mastaani, promising to be the biggest release of the year. In the midst of those ultra-busy schedules, Priyanka has enough time for candour. She looks back at chauvinism in the film industry and reveals her personal experiences with gender biases. She also reveals key details about her relationship with cousins Parineeti Chopra and Mannara. Bold and beautiful like always, a conversation with Priyanka is full of energy and insights…
After doing Quantico, has your perspective towards Hindi films changed?
Please man! I’ll keep doing potboilers. Ussike liye toh jeeti hoon main. If I don’t do a song in six months, mujhe kuch hone lagta hai. I need to do songs. Art in any form is art. Hindi cinema is not a stepping stone for me. It’s my career. I’ll do other things but I’ll keep coming back to it.
I’ve never taken a break from India. Why should I? I’ve been working on international projects for three years now. I go where my work takes me - never mind if it’s Yugoslavia. Duniya ab chhoti ho gayi hai. The web has made it small.
