Glamorous grandma Hema Malini talks about the new joys and new dreams in her life with Suman Sharma.
Hema Malini shows me photos of her lil’ grandson Darien, born this June to younger daughter Ahana and businessman Vaibhav Vohra, on her iPhone. She gushes over each frame, her joy evident as she zooms every picture. Hema wanted to name the infant Gopal but Ahana chose an esoteric Greek name. The actress confides that all memories of her daughters Esha and Ahana came rushing to her when she first set eyes on the cuddly grandson. “I was a working mother those days. I worked till the eighth month during both the pregnancies. So many changes occur in a woman’s body during that period. But thankfully, I had a smooth sailing. Ahana was a small baby. I remember the doctor telling me that the baby should at least weigh three kilos for a smooth delivery.”
She mentions that Ahana had the same sort of apprehensions as her when she first became a mother. “Ahana feared Darien would become more attached the maid who helped in looking after him. As a mother I too experienced a similar anxiety. I reassured her saying that a baby instinctively understands the mother. A child can sense the touch, the presence of the mother. The bond only deepens with time ”
Ahana, her son-in- law Vaibhav and little Darien flew down from Delhi to spend time with her on her 67th birhday. “Actually, meeting them isn’t a problem. My constituency is Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. I always make a transit stop at Delhi before progressing there,” says the BJP politician..
