Different people have different perceptions about London. But I believe it has a laidback vibe. The place has a quaint, beautiful charm and an easy breezy way of life. No matter what you do… stroll at the Hyde Park or have a meal in one of the restaurants at Covent Garden, you can’t but soak in the experience
Prachi Desai is someone who likes to take off on a holiday on impulse. But her hectic commitments don’t afford her much of this luxury. Fortunately, she could manage it this year. She visited Antalya in Turkey earlier this year. Recently, she went on an extensive trip exploring London and Edinburgh. She had a gala time meandering about in the English and the Scottish capital. It was an unusual experience to immerse herself in the sights and sounds of the two of the most happening places in Britain. Presenting a first-hand account of her getaway in her own words…
LONDON CALLING
I did many touristy things I could in the week that we spent in London. We visited the Tower of London, London Eye, Westminster Abbey and King’s Cross, a major London railway terminus. I loved King’s Cross because it features in JK Rowling’s Harry Potter books, as the starting point of the Hogwarts Express to the Hogwarts School. The train uses a secret platform 9¾ accessed through the brick wall barrier between platforms 9 and 10. Phew!
On the first day we visited the Covent Garden in London’s West End. It’s a must-see destination for anyone who enjoys shopping, theatre, restaurants, bars, history and culture. There are old theatres there, which are mentioned in the Tintin comics. We availed of the London Night Bus network, where you travel with a bunch of people, singing karaoke and drinking on board.
