MY DIGNITY, MY CHOICE... THE BEAUTIFUL RAKUL PREET SINGH BELIEVES THAT DECORUM IS A GIRL’S PREROGATIVE, RAGHUVENDRA SINGH AGREES

No One Has Spoken Shit To Me

Sass is her middle name. And spunk her first. Delhi-based Rakul Preet Singh is one actor, who’s popular both in the Hindi and the South film industry. She befriended the Hindi audiences with her debut Yaariyan (2014), which was also Divya Khosla Kumar’s directorial debut. But much before that Rakul had already enjoyed her first brush with glamour. While she made her acting debut in the Kannada film Gilli (2009), in 2011 she bagged several subtitles in the Femina Miss India pageant including Miss Fresh Face, Miss Talented, Miss Beautiful Smile and Miss Beautiful Eyes. After, Yaariyan, Rakul went down South and did more than 15 films in four years. “I’m proud to have made it without a godfather,” says she. “Going South was not intentional. I finished shooting for Yaariyan in 2013. It released in 2014. In that one-year gap, I did two films in Telugu, Keratam and Venkatadri Express. The latter was a hit, which led me to sign more Telugu films,” she explains.

Rakul then moved into the big league between 2014-17 with hits like Current Theega, Loukyam, Kick 2, Bruce Lee - The Fighter, Nannaku Prematho, Sarrainodu, Dhruva and Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru. “I was happy in my space. It’s better to be a star in one industry than be a struggler in the other,” is her practical stance. “Let’s face the truth – an actress’ shelf life is limited. I love being in front of the camera. I want to work as much as I can. Language is no barrier for me.”
