Filmfare|Filmfare 21-September-2016

Shahid Kapoor is all geared up for the ‘hippiest’ role of his life – daddy dearest! The rockstar shares his excitement with Raghuvendra Singh.

Raghuvendra Singh
Shahid Kapoor On Turning Daddy

For long he was considered the most eligible bachelor in the country. Today he’s a much-married man, a doting husband and a father-to-be. But despite the new add-ons to his status, his boyish charm hasn’t waned a bit. Leagues of fans still swear by Shahid Kapoor’s stardom as if he’s gen-now’s answer to Kurt Cobain. Ask the countless fan clubs on Twitter and Instagram and they’ll tell you how much of a rockstar Shahid is. He channelised that spirit in Udta Punjab recently and his swag overshadowed the controversies by a mile. Vishal Bhardwaj’s Rangoon promises to be another chart topper for the star. You could say Shahid Kapoor is in the best years of his life. In a candid conversation, he speaks about everything that makes him tick...

Mahesh Bhatt reportedly said that Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor are the bravest actors today - in that they choose unusual subjects. Comment…

There’s a thrill and excitement in picking up subjects that are not ordinary. Fun is in doing the extraordinary. I want to keep challenging myself. Only this helps you evolve as an actor. The fact that Udta Punjab has done so well has only proved that there is nothing like commercial or non-commercial cinema. There’s only good content and bad content.

What was the finest compliment you received for Udta Punjab?

People have been generous with their words post Udta Punjab. The finest compliment however was when someone wrote to me saying the film had moved him so deeply that he felt encouraged to take his first step towards quitting drugs. I will treasure that for life.

Do you believe Udta Punjab got its due despite so many controversies?
