She Didn't Want To Die

SOME DIE OF HEART FAILURE

Some of heartbreak. The beautiful Madhubala, perhaps, succumbed to both. She loved Dilip Kumar. She married Kishore Kumar. But could not find completeness with either... even as the world clamoured for her surreal beauty. A superstar at 16, married at 27, bedridden almost simultaneously... it was a premature packup for her at 36. Hers was indeed a life, few tragedies can equal. That’s why perhaps the intrigue and the lament around her continue decades after her demise...

New Delhi centre of Madame Tussauds unveiled a statute of Madhubala, as the famous courtesan Anarkali from Mughal-E-Azam, in the presence of her youngest sister Madhur Bhushan. The unveiling, which was scheduled to happen in London, was rescheduled for Delhi, the late Madhubala’s birth place. “I was nervous about attending such a special event alone. I’m grateful to Shri Arvind Kumar Mahiyaji, my Guruji’s most loved shishya, and also someone I greatly respect, for accompanying me. He gave me moral support during such an emotional moment,” she shares.

At the event, Madhur was asked if a biopic were to be made on the legendary artiste, who would be her choice. She spontaneously named Kareena Kapoor Khan. “Kareena is beautiful and immensely talented. Though I’m aware she looks different from my sister. But I’ve loved her performances,” she explains adding, “I just mentioned it in passing… it’s Kareena’s choice above everything else.”
