Athiya Shetty is a lot more than what the headlines suggest. She’s been biding her time after her debut in Hero. She’s dead serious about carving out a killer career. Why did you take so long to sign your second film - Mubarakan?

I was offered a lot of films post Hero. But I was nervous. I didn’t know if I wanted to be part of them. It’s believed that your first film chooses you, while you chose your second film. But when I heard the script of Mubarakan… I was excited. I wanted to be part of that environment, the script, the team... I got to work with Anees (Bazmee) sir. He’s the king of his genre – comedy. And then who gets the opportunity to work with Anil Kapoor in their second film? I wanted to do comedy, song, dance… I’ve grown up watching those films. Mubarakan is a comedy with a heart. It celebrates togetherness through a happy, crazy Punjabi family. You’ll be able to relate to it like ‘Oh, I have a maasi like this’, or ‘I have a bua like this’!
